Over 4,000 years old, Qigong combines the mind, body and breath using a variety of simple postures to promote a good energy flow. When we work with our energy, we can tap into and influence these subtle functions within us. We influence the activity of our nerves, the flow of our blood, the internal movement and activity of our cells to bring health and vitality to every part of our body; replenishing and restoring energy levels to balance, heal and nourish your body.
Qigong can be used to positively influence a broad range of conditions, and is safe to be practiced by anyone with any level of fitness and health.
Living with MS, Jane Green, Seed’s Qigong teacher in Beaconsfield, found her quality of life was deteriorating. Said Jane, “My fatigue was so debilitating I had to give up my job, I was limiting my social engagements and usual exercise routine and I was finding day to day life exhausting.
“I was lucky enough to be introduced to Qigong and I started doing a regular practice daily and I felt better afterwards where as with other types of exercises I often felt worse. I had more energy, felt more confident and positive, and I was able to say ‘yes’ to more things.”
Steve Munn, Seed’s Qigong teacher in Henley, Oxfordshire, runs classes at The Henley Yoga Studio. Said Steve, “I describe this practice as a moving meditation, connecting through the whole body, working deep into the fascia, calming the nervous system, strengthening throughout and allowing energy to flow through the meridians, allowing health and harmony.
“In this modern and busy world, it’s clear that as we learn to improve the quality of our lives in some ways we are losing the very essence of being human. In an ancient practice such as Qigong we can connect to the earth, the universe and to ourselves, filling us with a sense of calm and wellbeing.”
Benefits include:
Said Jane, “Qigong has taught me to notice my body; how it feels and how it moves; when I feel fatigued, I have learnt that movement is as important as rest. With these movements I am helping my body move energy, blood and lymph to where it needs to be and as such Qigong has changed my relationship with my MS. I now feel more in control of my own health. My digestion is better, I am generally calmer and my overall immunity has improved.
“Today, I have now had no new lesions for two years, I have more energy, more resilience to stress, I am back working, socialising and enjoying life! Physically and mentally qigong has changed my life and reversed the downward course of my disease. It has taught me that the body innately wants to heal itself and by practicing regularly, I have the power to positively change my own health and wellbeing and those of others.”
