Barre is a workout class combining ballet-inspired movements with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Most classes incorporate a ballet barre and use classic dance moves such as plies and static stretches. Barre also focuses on high reps of small range movements.
The main difference between barre and other workouts is the isometric movements where you hold the body while working specific muscles, building intensity and thus bringing results.
A typical barre class will use a range of exercises aimed to work your whole body. Some classes also use resistance bands and light hand weights to increase challenge and help build lean muscle and mats for more targeted core work.
Barre classes are a fun way to exercise and tone up and are suitable for all ages and abilities.
