Are you looking for a simple and effective way to reduce stress, manage anxiety, and improve your overall well-being? Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an increasingly popular evidence based yet easy-to-learn tool that can help you take control of your health and wellbeing.
What is EFT?
EFT is a powerful self-applied stress reduction technique often referred to as ‘tapping’ as it involves tapping with the fingertips on acupuncture points on the hands, head and chest. It combines elements of cognitive therapy along with physical stimulation of acupuncture points to address emotional and physical issues.
Developed in the 1990s by Gary Craig, one of the great advantages of EFT is that it is a gentle technique you can learn to use yourself to support you through your everyday life. EFT is also useful as a complement to any conventional medical treatment.
How does EFT Work?
EFT works by deactivating both the Amygdala, which is the part of the brain that manages stress, and the Hippocampus which is responsible for memories. Both of these play a role in the decision-making process with regard to our warning signals and letting us know when we are in danger.
Tapping on these acupuncture points whilst focussing on accepting and resolving the negative issue sends an electromagnetic impulse to the brain releasing the emotional charge connected to that memory or problem. The effect of this release is that our subconscious programming is changed to physically alter our brain, energy system and body all at once.
This capacity to rapidly reduce the stress response is fundamental to the speed and effectiveness of tapping. Reducing stress helps you make better choices and when you make better choices your body responds.
What are the benefits of EFT?
In recent years EFT has been subjected to lots of clinical trials to test how it affects the mind and body. Research has now shown that this tapping technique can lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, and improve the immune function which can ultimately improve both physical and mental health. EFT has been shown to help a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety, pain management, phobias, immune response, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addictions, sporting performance, physical and mental functioning and more.
This simple and powerful tool can help you take control of your emotions and live a happier, healthier more balanced life. So why not give it a try and experience the benefits for yourself?
