OVERCOMING TRAUMA

Are you struggling to overcome a traumatic event? Do you feel that trauma, past or present, is having a negative impact on you and your life?

We asked 3 of our experts at Seed how they help their clients overcome trauma in mind, body and soul.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Said Dr Anouk Houdijk, Seed’s Clinical Psychologist and specialist in Trauma Therapy, “Most of us go through life having experiences that we find traumatic. We could be dealing with one traumatic event or numerous events, that may be recent or as far back as childhood.”

  1. If you are living in a traumatised state, you don’t have to live this way. This is treatable. Don’t try and manage it on your own. Seek professional help.
  2. Work to regulate your nervous system to bring your body and mind back into balance. Go to a yoga class, try mindfulness, get out every day for a walk
  3. Begin to reclaim the things that trauma has removed from your life. Get support to help you start to see people you haven’t seen or go to places you haven’t been to as a result of the traumatic experience.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle bodywork that works deeply and profoundly with the whole person. People who seek out Craniosacral Therapy are often experiencing chronic pain, and / or stress and anxiety.

Said Sam Lowi, Seed’s Craniosacral Therapist, “During the treatment process it often becomes apparent that these are the result of a past trauma, accident, injury or surgery.

  1. We all react to trauma in different ways – some people may find parts of themselves numb and frozen where others have over-activated nervous systems. Craniosacral therapy works deeply and profoundly with the whole nervous system, enabling us to feel safe again within our own bodies
  2. As we navigate life’s challenges, tension builds up in the body. Trauma can also manifest as physical tension. Craniosacral Therapy enables our bodies to unwind and release this tension it is holding.
  3. Craniosacral Therapy supports us to come into balance and to enhance our bodies’ natural and inherent healing processes.

REIKI

Reiki is based on a hands-on healing technique that uses energy to promote healing, reduce stress and boost relaxation. Said Seed’s Reiki Master, Bansree Takodra, “Reiki provides a great aid to alleviate the impact of trauma.”

  1. Reiki eases the body and mind into a place of deep rest
  2. This helps to soothe anxiety, sadness and ‘wired’ thinking, which are often symptoms of the trauma response
  3. It also helps us to release attachment to the traumatic event
