“I teach a contemporary Pilates method while maintaining the integrity of classical Pilates. My ethos is that all movement is good. So regardless of your ability, age and health just turning up will be improving your body and mind.
Having worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years, during that time I travelled to America and Australia regularly. This is where I first became familiar with Reformer Pilates. I found it to be the perfect exercise for me. I wasn’t a gym person or a runner. I preferred a mindful exercise that I enjoyed, made me feel good and was doing my body good. Having made the decision to start a teacher training course, I chose to learn with Basi Pilates for its contemporary and evolving approach to Pilates.
I have a special interest in pregnancy and postnatal clients. Pilates during pregnancy will not only help support the body while carrying the baby but also assist the body during birth. After pregnancy, Pilates couldn’t be more essential to reconditioning the pelvic floor, abdominals and posture.
Pilates is about mobilising, strengthening and stretching the entire body. It’s about making sure the whole body is working together and no cog is getting stiff. I like to work specifically to my clients’ needs and create each class around their body on that day.
I love watching my clients develop a love and understanding of Pilates. It isn’t just about movement – it requires thought too and when a client has that moment when the brain and the body suddenly connect the dots and work together, I find that so rewarding. I love seeing clients progress each week and leave the studio feeling better than when they walked in.
