Prevention Over Cure – It’s time to take control

Do you wish to feel better, healthier and happier? Are you struggling with poor physical health or mental wellbeing that conventional medicine is not fixing? Do you wish to feel more in control of your own health and mitigate risk of or even reverse / overcome illness and disease?

Today, with our healthcare system buckling under increasing pressure, it has never been more important to understand what we can do to improve our own health, wellbeing and longevity.

At Seed, we believe in focussing on prevention over cure and addressing the root cause of our health concerns in order to overcome them. The good news is, there are lots of things we can do to help ourselves.

Seed’s Lifestyle Physician and former GP, Dr Ruzeen Hettiarachichi, agrees. “As a GP, we have such limited budget, time and resource. I think we are thinking more now about how important prevention and lifestyle actually are. It is something that should come into medical school and doctors and nurses need to know more about. We need to know more about this to help prevent illness and disease from happening in the first place. We need to focus our attention here.”

A HOLISTIC APPROACH

Seed’s Holistic Health Coach, Elizabeth O’Neil, works with her clients to prevent, manage, overcome and even reverse emerging health conditions using a 360º approach. Said Elizabeth, “A whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working effectively, all other parts will be impacted. Therefore, in order to optimise our health, we need to start viewing it through a wider lens.”

At Seed, we use the 4 Pillars of Health – Relax, Eat, Move & Flourish – as a framework to help us understand where we need to focus to remain optimal.

TASK

  1. Draw 4 pillars on a piece of paper
  2. Name your pillars as follows – Relax, Eat, Move & Flourish
  3. Think about / write down the different things you do in your life to address each pillar:
    • Relax – how do you mitigate / release stress?
    • Eat – how healthy is your diet? Are you getting the nutrients you need?
    • Move – do you exercise regularly? Do you suffer with mobility issues or suffer with aches and pains?
    • Flourish – how do you nurture your mental health and your relationship with yourself and others
  • 4. Give yourself a score out of 10 for each pillar
  • 5. Prioritise your focus on the pillar that scored least and work up!

Common issues we see where coaching can help include:

  • Poor diet / lifestyle
  • Stress, anxiety, depression or sleep issues
  • Digestive / gut health issues
  • Chronic pain / mobility issues
  • Low energy / vitality
  • Excess weight you can’t shift
  • Low self-confidence / self esteem / resilience at home and / or work
  • Procrastination / lack of motivation & proactivity
  • Relationship challenges
