Ageing Well isn’t just about how we look or how healthy our bodies are, it’s also about how open we remain to life, possibility, and new beginnings.
One of the most powerful examples of this is the life and journey of Louise Hay herself.
Louise didn’t become a well-known author or publisher in her twenties or thirties. In fact, she began her writing career in her 50s and founded Hay House Publishing in her early 60s. At an age when society often tells us to slow down, settle, or “accept how things are,” Louise did the opposite. She followed an inner calling (she called it her Inner Ding!) and in doing so, changed millions of lives around the world.
Her journey is a beautiful reminder that we are never too late. Life is always unfolding exactly as it is supposed to.
The Beliefs We Inherit About Ageing
Many of us grow up absorbing societal beliefs about ageing without even realising it, perhaps just accepting them as true…
Beliefs such as:
These limiting beliefs can quietly shape our choices and keep us playing small and prevent that inner spark from becoming a flame…Yet they are just that… beliefs, or stories we keep telling ourselves. A belief is a thought we keep on thinking. They are not necessarily facts and they don’t have to be ours to hold or identify with and accept as our truth.
Louise Hay challenged those beliefs simply by living her truth. She proved that creativity, purpose, success and joy do not have an expiry date. Louise also learned to paint, learned to dance and grow her own organic food in these later years as well as travel the world..
Challenging a Limiting Belief Changes Everything
It’s amazing what we can tell ourselves to stop ourselves moving forward…especially when something exciting is stirring within us. Perhaps it’s a dream we’ve had for years, a creative idea, a career shift, a new way of living, or simply something we’ve always wanted to try… “one day.”
That inner nudge doesn’t often disappear with age. It can often grow stronger and thats when we can find ourselves using these excuses to stop those dreams from ever having a chance to become a reality…but…once you begin to question a limiting belief you’ve identified, something magical happens. A whole new world of possibilities can open up. The excitement starts to build and expand as you start to experience the feelings associated with new possibility.
The only thing standing in the way is often the story we’re telling ourselves in our own minds….We can choose to change this story…
Ageing Well Means Staying Curious
Ageing Well is about staying curious, open, and receptive to life. It’s about allowing ourselves to think differently and gently noticing where we might be limiting ourselves or holding ourselves back…not in a harsh or judgmental way, but with curiosity of how can I think of this differently?
So I invite you to pause for a moment and ask yourself (perhaps write down or journal what comes up for you with these questions):
We don’t need to have all the answers. Curiosity is enough to bring awareness to what our limiting beliefs could be around ageing and if we’re open and receptive to exploring that, then our “Inner Ding” will come forward and let us know.
Louise Hay’s life reminds us that new beginnings can happen at any age, and that our most meaningful chapters and experiences may still be ahead of us. We are never too late and life, always, is unfolding exactly as it is meant to and in the perfect time.
Louise Hay saw ageing as a mindset choice, of positive beliefs with Self-Love at the core. Which of these positive affirmations feel good or could be adopted as a new way of thinking and opening up to possibility:
Who knows what beautiful possibilities are waiting for us, just on the other side of a belief we’re ready to release.
As a Heal Your Life Workshop Leader and Life Coach, I love supporting people to explore their later years as their treasure years…a time of deeper self-connection, wisdom, freedom, and possibility. These years are about opening up to who you truly are and what still wants to be expressed through you.
Through the philosophy of Louise Hay, I help people gently question limiting beliefs, reconnect with their inner guidance, and create a life that feels nourishing, purposeful, and aligned now and at any age.
