HOW DISCOVERING YOUR OWN STYLE PERSONALITY CAN INSTIL SELF-LOVE & SELF-EMPOWERMENT
AND, WHY SHOPPING FOR ‘YOUR’ STYLE IS AN IMPORTANT DOSE OF SELF CARE!
I don’t know about you but for me, shopping for clothes has always been a chore. Just walking into a busy store with endless rails of colours and styles gives me such an immediate sense of confusion and overwhelm, I just want to leave.
When I met Jo Haley, Seed’s Positive Image consultant, I was intrigued by her use of phrases such as ‘self-love’ and ‘self-empowerment’ as main components of a woman’s style choices.
Okay – so I get the power dressing thing. Having worked in media and marketing in London, I spent years donning pencil skirts and killing my feet in inappropriate shoes to look the part. However, I always felt so positively ‘un’ me, knowing that the image I was portraying to the world to fit my corporate persona, was actually just a very tiny part of who I was.
So, meeting Jo was really interesting to me. Her conversation around image and style and their link to self-care, confidence and even success was both captivating and inspiring. In our first meeting, Jo taught me something that helped shed some light on my own (non)relationship with fashion… Style isn’t really about WHAT you wear; it’s how and why you wear it.
Said Jo, “We all have our own unique style personality. We just need to understand what that is. It’s not just about choosing the right colours but also the right shapes, textures, tones and materials that work with who we are rather than who we think we should be. We need to peel back the layers to discover what we truly like and what works for us, our skin tone, hair colour and as importantly, our personality.
Actually, women in midlife (of which I am one) make up the majority of Jo’s clientele. Said Jo, “At this time of life, women can lose their sense of inspiration and identity. My job is to help them rediscover themselves. And working with clothes and makeup are just some of the ways to help them achieve this.”
Choosing the ‘right’ clothes, I learned, is a process that goes far deeper than you might think. With professional guidance, it becomes a journey of self-discovery, helping you to show your best, most authentic self to the world.
So knowing YOUR unique style when you go shopping really is about self-care and confidence!
