Kate Kirrane shares her consultation with Seed’s Women’s Health Practitioner, Adele Wimsett as they explore how to manage the peri-menopause.
Entering the season of peri-menopause myself, I was keen to explore how I might be able to manage my experiences. So I reached out to Adele Wimsett, Seed’s Women’s Health Practitioner to see how she may be able to support me.
Before going on, it may be useful to describe what this very unique role actually involves!
Adele has extensive experience of working with women, particularly in relation to their menstrual cycles. Having experienced hypothalamic amenorrhea (AKA her period went missing due to stress in her 20’s!) she has undertaken significant research and training in to how to support women with managing their periods. From menarche (first period, through menstruation to menopause she is able to offer women support with lifestyle protocols. Very few practitioners exist and Adele has created her own style of working with women by not only addressing hormone imbalance but harnessing the power of women’s cycles to take women form striving to thriving.
Having co-authored a book on women’s cycles, Adele is passionate about working with women in a way that meets their individual needs, offering bespoke tailored support as unique as the woman she’s working with. Being able to meet the client where they are is really important to ensuring effective and sustainable change. Adele describes herself as the bridge between the science and the woo woo, offering a truly holistic approach to empower women to feel good.
So what does it involve?
Adele initially offers a free 20 virtual connection call, where you explore whether you have specific menstrual cycle symptoms or whether you would simply like a hormone MOT, to ensure you do not crash land into menopause! The focus is very much on the individual needs of each woman.
Following on from this a full 75 minute session is undertaken over zoom. This involves a deep dive into your lifestyle, reviewing nutrition, movement and the oh so important stress response. Time is taken to understand the best way to implement change, which is undertaken in a managed bite size way.
Adele believes that understanding what is happening in the body is such a powerful way to motivate us to make change, so she is able to share with you the cause of the imbalances and why it is happening.
Once this has been explored, Adele offers lifestyle solutions which are simple to undertake, as let’s be honest, every woman alive is time poor, so this is an important part of the process! It is not about “doing” more to feel good, in fact probably quite the opposite! Her plans are not restrictive as she focuses on nourishing you!
During the call you agree a personalised plan designed to work with your lifestyle needs and links to anything she has suggested during the session. Due to Adele’s approach of implementing change in a managed way, we agree a time to meet in the following weeks to review how I am getting on with the plan, if there are any barriers and then consider the next phase of change towards feeling my best!
Conclusions
Quite often women can feel lost, alone and unheard with their symptoms. I loved how Adele really seemed to fully understand my experiences and concerns, offering accessible solutions both within and outside of conventional medicine and looking at different options to help me manage peri-menopause. Adele believes in empowering women to be the gurus of what feels right in their bodies and leading the way in making the changes they need to feel good. I definitely came away feeling I could feel more in control in my quest to feeling better, happier and more balanced.
