Reflexology – A Treatment Review with Heidi Adams

April 9, 2022Seed AdminBlogNo comments

Seed Co-Founder Jen Suri, shares her experience of a recent Reflexology treatment with Seed’s Reflexologist in Beaconsfield and Amersham, Heidi Adams.

Before we set up Seed in 2018 my only prior experience with Reflexology had been to try and induce labour when pregnant with my second child (which it certainly helped to do!) But since understanding more about Reflexology I continue to be amazed by how effective it can be at supporting both your general health AND targeting specific ailments.

So, what exactly is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a traditional healing art originating in Asia some 3000 years ago. It’s based on the principle that the soles of the feet reflect a map of the body and that each point or ‘reflex’ of the foot corresponds with different organs and systems.

By stimulating these reflex points (essentially nerve endings) and applying compression massage this complimentary therapy can target specific areas in the body, encouraging them to function more efficiently.

The aim of Reflexology is to unblock energy pathways and thus bring the body back into balance so it can heal itself. The pressure point massage can also be applied to the hands, the ears and even the face.

My Experience

As well as her beautiful treatment room in Chalfont St Peter, Heidi offers a mobile service, which I selected, so she arrived at my house and set up her very comfortable chair. She checked my medical history and then we discussed which oil would be beneficial for her to use throughout the treatment. Heidi uses a vegan wax which is blended with essential oils (which are selected based on your reason for visiting, i.e. oils for relaxing, hormone balancing, uplifting etc) And like many of us at Seed, Heidi is a fan of doTerra Essential Oils and diffuses them throughout your treatment to support the benefits of reflexology.

I was feeling pretty stressed and overwhelmed at the time of the treatment so Heidi identified the objective of the treatment as relaxation. She began to apply pressure to certain areas of my feet – like a massage – but with varying degrees of pressure. Unlike a massage though Heidi would apply stationary pressure in just one point for a certain length of time. Heidi talked me through the different areas on my feet that correlate with areas of my body. We talked about gut health and the digestive system and Heidi applied pressure on those points and I could feel a tingly sensation in my stomach – I’m still in awe of how clever our bodies are!

The treatment lasted 45 minutes and as Heidi and I chatted throughout I could feel the stress seeping out of me. I could literally feel myself become lighter the longer the treatment continued. Heidi told me that some people like to sit in silence throughout a treatment, many fall asleep and some love a chat. Heidi also plays calming music which just helps you to relax and unwind.

Conclusion

After my Reflexology treatment I was so relaxed it honestly felt like I was floating on air! The worries and stresses from before my treatment were still there, but they no longer felt overwhelming, they felt manageable and within my control. This feeling of lightness and calmness stayed with me all week.

I would certainly recommend Heidi for stress relief and relaxation BUT I also know that Heidi treats many people for pain, injury and supports her clients with many specific health conditions. She volunteers at a cancer ward and enjoys the moments of peace she is able to offer the patients through Reflexology.

Reflexology Commonly Supports:

  • Increased energy/vitality
  • Boosted circulation
  • Deep relaxation
  • Detoxification
  • Fertility / Pregnancy
  • Stress, anxiety and depression
  • Digestive issues
  • Sleep issues and insomnia
  • Inflammatory issues
  • Tension headaches/migraines
  • Muscular and back pain
  • Hypertension
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Chronic illness

Reflexology is also commonly used to boost fertility, help with conception, support during pregnancy and provide post-natal care for both mother and baby. And as such, Heidi is a member of The Seed Childbirth Collective.
