At the beginning of December, Seed’s Co-Founder Jen Suri, tried out a 3-day juice cleanse from the Yummy Juice Company. Here she talks about the experience and whether she’d recommend the cleanse as a good start to the new year.
Juice cleansing is continuing to remain a firm favourite on the wellness scene, loved and endorsed by celebrities as well as many of my friends. A juice cleanse promises to help you lose weight, brighten your skin and hair, boost your energy and improve your sleep.
I had never tried one myself until I met The Yummy Juice Company – a local business on a mission to spread the juicing love. So, when they became a part of the Seed family, I jumped at the chance to give their 3-day cleanse a try.
Anybody who knows me knows that I like to eat… So going without food for three full days would definitely be a challenge. In the past I’ve been known to do various detox / fasting programmes whenever emergency weight loss was needed – to fit a dress for a wedding or get me holiday ready. But I’ve always been such a grumpy, hungry mess by day two that I either crack and reach for the fridge or am sent to bed at 7pm by my entire family.
I was keen to juice cleanse. But would I stick to it?
My three-day Yummy Juice Company cleanse was delivered to my door on a Sunday evening, all ready for me to begin the following morning. You receive five 330ml bottles of different juices for each day (all of which are freshly made from organic fruit & veg). The bottles for days one & two go straight in the fridge, whilst those for day three go in the freezer to ensure you’re consuming the freshest juice possible.
Each day begins with a cup of hot water with lemon. At 9am you get to taste your first juice, with 2-3 hour intervals between each juice throughout the rest of the day.
Two things surprised me on day one. Firstly, the juices were delicious – not just ok, not just drinkable, but actually super tasty. Who knew that beetroot and red pepper could taste this good? Secondly, I noticed by lunchtime that I genuinely wasn’t hungry, which was a surprise since I’m normally hankering for lunch by midday. I was drinking more water than usual and filling up on herbal teas too and I truly didn’t have the inclination to eat. I went to bed happy and ready for day two.
Days two and three went by in pretty much the same way. I looked forward to the juices but I never felt hungry enough to want to eat and ruin the cleanse. Dinnertime on Tuesday (night two) was a bit tough, but only because I was bored senseless while the rest of my family were eating around me. In the end I grabbed a couple of almonds but this was really just something to do and not because I needed them.
I finished the juice cleanse fine with no further temptations, no dramas, no mood swings and with my family all still talking to me, which was good. Even better were the benefits of avoiding solid food, caffeine & alcohol for three days. I had lost 3.5lbs, slept better than I had in months and had a lovely flat and bloat-free tummy. The best part was when I started eating solid food again on the Thursday, I still wasn’t especially hungry and therefore only ate small amounts. I was so aware of everything I was putting into my mouth and really felt like the cleanse had reset my bad habits.
In conclusion I loved this juice cleanse. It’s healthy, easy to do and comes with extensive benefits. I would recommend the Yummy Juice Company to anyone, from those trying a cleanse for the first time to seasoned juicing pros. I especially like the fact they will tailor the juices to your personal tastes, so if you hate beetroot it’s out and if you love avocados they’ll chuck loads in. It’s all about what you want.
I will definitely be back; especially after the over indulgences of Christmas!
The Yummy Juice Company offer 1, 3, 5 & 10 day Juice Cleanses starting from £39.99.
